Author Topic: Looking at laptops  (Read 879 times)

I found one that looks good, not completely sure though. All i need is a laptop that could run any source game(such as Gmod or HL2 Episode 2) at a decent FPS(30 or more) Anyways here is the specs:

Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache)(could be 2.0GHZ)
Glossy, widescreen 15.6 inch display (1366x768)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit(could get Windows 7 for free, might be better)
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330
6-cell battery(could be 9-cell for extra $40)
Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card
High Definition Audio 2.0

Please tell me if it's good and if i could get better for around the same price, this one costs $649.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, 3GB RAM, 130GB hard drive, 2GHz Intel Dual-Core processor. I can get by with it, but adding 200GB and 4GB of RAM would probably be better for gaming. On most games I get like ~15 FPS.

Ugh, Pentium Dual-Core...
That's the only thing that may set you back. Consider upgrading to a Core 2 Duo.

Get the 2GHz, 800MHz is mad slow.

That's just the FSB, the actual processor is 2 GHz.
But still, it's a Pentium Dual-Core, not made for gaming.

Laptops themselves really aren't made for gaming, anyway.

@OP  Desktops are better because they overheat less and have better performance available for cheaper, since things don't have to be scaled down and such.  Also, unless you plug it in, wireless connections are a bitch.
imo.

I still don't see why people can't buy/build a gaming desktop with a netbook. The whole "I go to lan parties/my friends house" doesn't really work for me.

I'm sure there's something you can do about lan parties, and you can do other things at your friends house besides playing pc games.

I already have a gaming desktop, but i just want a laptop not meant for gaming but can still run games such as gmod at a decent fps (at least 20 FPS or more.)

Ok, if i were to get a Duo core, perhaps a 2.1 duo or a 2.0 duo, would it be fine?
