Dangerous?
The answer is Yes and No
Depends what you download from it.
My mom got LimeWire and one of here worker's say you can download a virus from it with out knowing.

I use Frostwire, it's basically Limewire before it turned to stuff

While there are stuff tons of false files and virus-ridden executables, it's very easy to avoid them once you see telltale signs like reocurring filenames "tom petty at la 2009" "metallica at la 2009" "cheap trick at la 2009" or stuff like "SUPER RARE RECORDING" or my all-time favorite: "<Search term> hardcore love tape real!!!"
