the answer is x = -1.5 or x = 1

what are you trying to prove with this? my calculator can easily solve this problem, and so can i. and in this case it would be quicker and easier to do it in my head,  but there are problems that are incredibly difficult to solve without a calculator.

TI-86 is a pretty nice calculator, my Enriched math teacher has a whole load as the class set.
I have a TI-84, it's cool too, great for graphing. (as one assumes graphing calculators are...)
