Qwerty Chronicles
Day 1, The Blizzard
By Camera
The first thing Qwerty noticed was while he was in bed was that it was cold. This wasn't your average cozy winter morning. This, was like standing on the continent of Antarctica! Curious, Qwerty took a look at the temperature on his thermostat hanging by the doorway to his bedroom. He was surprised to find that the bar was at 80°F, pretty unusual for this odd situation.
Qwerty went downstairs to check outside. He confirm his suspicion when he opened the door to find out that the whole neighborhood was covered in a blanket of snow. Qwerty realized the more colder, outside air was creeping into his house! He quickly slammed the door shut and dashed into his room under his covers. There, he slept soundly for a while.
A long moment later, Qwerty finds himself shivering uncontrollably as if somebody pulled off his warmth and threw him outside. Once he sat up and opened his eyes, he realized that exactly what happened. He was shocked to find out that he was surrounded by large plains of snow with several hills here and there. Everywhere Qwerty looked, were flakes of snow and shards of ice, dancing until they touch the surface of the quiet world. As he got up and started walking around, Qwerty started getting used to the cold and stopped shivering.
After he walked over a few hills and around icy protrusions embedded in the ground, Qwerty heard a voice. He looked in all directions to find out where it is coming from, but he did not succeed. A split second later, Qwerty heard it again, clearly this time. "Hey, remember me?" Qwerty must have been imagining things because the last time he heard this voice, was the time when he went on a weird adventure that nearly got him killed several times! Not only that, but all of everything just for a piece of paper! He wondered what the voice would want him to do now.
"I'm pretty sure that you're surprised to see me here," the voice said, "You are also confused on why you are here as well." Right, like Qwerty could actually see him. Not only that, but this voice is a mind reader too! "Anyways, the reason for why I am here is to ask for your help again, obviously."
"Does this involve me almost killing myself like last time?" questioned Qwerty.
"It may, but you're smart enough to avoid such, uncertain events," answered the voice in a matter-of-fact tone. "This journey will be longer than your last, unfortunately for you." Qwerty sighed, he wonder what's in it for him if he does what this guy asks. Qwerty is sure he the voice belongs to a guy...
"Very well, I will help you once more," agreed Qwerty
"Excellent!" boomed the voice, "I'll go ahead and leave this here." Suddenly, there was a flash of light. Qwerty lowered his arm from his eyes, he saw a small torch erected in front of him. This torch was weird, because even though it is snowing and blowing where Qwerty was standing, it still stood blinking and flickering.
"What do you want me to do exactly?" asked Qwerty while picking up the odd item.
"My request is simple enough," answered the voice, "all you need to do is to find and collect ten minerals; ten for each day during your journey." Then the world turned quiet. The winds stopped blowing so hard. Qwerty thinks this means the voice is now gone. Not that he was physically there anyhow. Qwerty shrugged and moved on.
As Qwerty walked several yards further, he came across small bodies of water that may or may not contain fish. Thinking about this made him hungry, so he dismissed the thought. Not soon after, Qwerty found a bunch of snowmen. As he curiously tiptoed closer to them, he realized his mistake because the snowmen stated to move! They turned their heads towards Qwerty and grinned, showing a nasty bunch of sharp teeth. Qwerty quickly fled from the monsters but he was too slow, they were gaining up fast! Now, these snowmen were even more dangerous because of the icy weapons they carry. For things without legs, they move pretty fast!
Qwerty thought and he thought fast. Remembering the torch that the voice had somehow given him, Qwerty turned around and hurled it in the directions of the rampaging monsters. As soon as it touched one, they all exploded into a flurry of cold limbs and white powder. Qwerty walked up to the debris and picked up the torch he threw, which was still glowing somehow. Yet again, he continued moving on.
A short while later, Qwerty went over to a hill where he last found the creepy snowmen. He was confused because there wasn't a hill here before. He examined another side to find that there was a cave implanted at the base. Qwerty decided to go investigate it since there was nothing else to do. So with his torch in hand, he began to descend into its depths. After what seemed like hours, Qwerty arrived in a large, domed room. The only light source here were big glowing crystals and small pools of frozen water filled with glowing dots. He suspects that there are fish swimming under the surface. Qwerty took a few more steps into the chamber and it immediately began to rumble. A giant icicle snapped off from the ceiling and landed in front of the only exit here, blocking anything from coming in or out.
Now, the awkward thing about this room was a pile of snow boulders lying in the middle of the area. When the mist from the shaking had settled down, there was now a gleam or statue like being standing in the middle of the room. It had those glow rocks for eyes and huge spikes coming out of its back, making it even more intimidating. It let out a roar that echoed across the air and raised its ghostlike appendages. Instantly, shards of ice started flying towards Qwerty, slicing up the air and making a whistling sound. He dodged most of the projectiles but a few had scraped his shoulder.
Qwerty winced in pain and saw that the gash wasn't bleeding. The frozen environment had freezed the blood from bursting out, but if he stayed several minutes longer, the cold would give him frostbites. He was sure that whatever this thing wants, it surely doesn't want him here. The next few seconds composed of Qwerty dodging more bullets, although with more dexterity this time. During those moments, the torch he was holding caught some of the shards and grew bigger while it crackled with flames. Qwerty quickly devised a plan and hurdled himself to the nearest rock protrusion in the ground. Proving his theory, the torch exploded with intense heat and became a sword with a fiery blade. He continued doing this for the next few crystals, making the blade look sharper and longer, but melting the crystals on touch.
Now with a more formidable weapon, Qwerty charged towards the snow gleam in a daring, suicidal move. The being bellowed and did the same. At the last second, Qwerty ducked beneath its moving legs and slide to the far wall. Realizing its mistake, but was too slow the gleam bashed into the opposite wall and made the room rumble again. Qwerty seized his chance and made a run for the gleam, dodging the stalactites crashing all around him. When he was closet to the monster, he jumped in the air and stabbed the flaming sword into its back. The blade cut through it like butter and in turn, the gleam moaned in pain and exploded in the same manner as the snowmen. When the dust has settled, there was a glowing gem in the location where the gleam was standing. Qwerty grabbed it and ran through the opening that the gleam had made.
As soon as he stepped outside, he saw the world in complete chaos. Cracks were forming everywhere and water shot out from numerous locations. But the thing that caught Qwerty's attention was a portal, or what seems to be one. Inside the portal was an image showing his neighborhood. Seeing no other way to go, Qwerty stepped through. He wakes up several minutes later, laying on his front lawn. At first he expected the ground to be covered with cold ice and the sky to be grey. He immediately stood up to warm himself. But as he looked around, he stopped rubbing his arms together and saw the sun shining and the gentle western breeze. Looking at his shoulder, it seems as the wound has disappeared as he came back here. Across the street Qwerty's neighbor, and also one of his best friends waved to him.
"Hey buddy, where have you all morning? Nixel and I thought you were sick at home!" said Knaz.
"Well, uh. I been going places," Qwerty stammered.
"Well who goes at six o'clock in the morning?" asked Knaz.
"Whatever, forget it. I'll drop by later," said Qwerty.
"Okay then, Nixel and I will be setting up a party at my house this afternoon, see you there," hollered Knaz. As Qwerty scurried back into his house, he heard the voice again.
"You have done well," remarked the voice.
"Now what do I do?" demanded Qwerty.
"Hold onto the gem, you would not like to lose it until you have gained all of the others. Once you have collect all of them, I will come to you myself," answered the voice. Qwerty sighed and got ready for the party his friends were preparing for whatever reasons they would tell him. When he got home with a stomach full of pizza, Qwerty flopped into his bed and slept soundly for the rest of the day.
The next morning, he woke up sweating, looking over at his thermometer, he was shocked to find that its top was broken with red liquid slithering out. Looking out the window, he also saw that the sky was unusually red this time of day. Qwerty sat up and got ready for the voice's next assignment. He had a feeling this day was gonna get hotter.
