Author Topic: 200 Speed Limit  (Read 889 times)

I've always wondered why most max limits for velocities is 200. Is there any reason behind this, or is it just so that players won't have guns shooting at light speed?

scaling affects projectile top speed

kinda wish the projectile cap was 1440 or something, and projectile scale only affected damage

Can't you just lower the speed to damage ratio?

High speed vehicles caused crashes when they escaped from the map and fell forever so their velocity was capped.

you know, now that i think about it, i don't think i've pushed my plan faster than 190 or so... maybe i went into the 200s

What about projectiles and players?

projectiles got abusive.

Yeah, but things like sniper bullets go slow. :/

Could you imagine though, if bullets went fast? That would open up a whole bunch of griefing opportunities.

But imagine what would happen if that speed limit was not there. Cars launching off ramps and flying for hundreds of feet before crashing to the ground, planes wedging themselves half way into you build, flying monkeys stealing you dogs at light speed, bullets flying at the speed of sound blowing up entire buildings with no time to dodge for cover, and submersibles busting out of the sea dropping Jarate all over you team.

I understand the vehicle speed limit, but why apply that to bullets? I know that BL can handle some projectile speeds above 200.

collision starts freaking out at 400 and breaks entirely past 1440 or so

i still say the cap should be put at 1440 or so and speed shouldn't scale

We still want the game to look good, without vehicles flying through walls.

I've seen BL handle a gun bullet and speeds of 800. I know that at certain speeds it jumps right through walls.
