You probably don't need BitLocker and you probably won't need to set up each of your comptuer's user accounts with a different language. Then again, if you're getting pro, ultimate is only $20 extra. Personally I wouldn't buy ultimate, and I voted so in the poll. I'm thinking most people voted for it because they thought it had the most features or they wanted it for bragging rights or something but Windows 7 has a very simple feature ladder - pro has all the features of home, ultimate has all the features of pro. You're not going to miss out on home features by upgrading to pro (unlike vista, or so I've read, I never used vista).

I can basically guarantee you will not use any of the ultimate features and that it's a waste of your $20 unless you're putting it on a company laptop where having an encrypted hard drive for business makes sense and you need to be able to switch between languages on the fly is if you've got a client in another country and want to show them a presentation or lend them your laptop for something.

XP mode is useful and if you think you might use it then go with pro. Otherwise stick with home. The difference of $80 is pretty significant.

Also, if you've got a family member in college right now you can get the upgrade for $30.

I live in the UK.I dont use American Dollars

I don't know if it's different where you live, but here whenever I see prices listed in pounds I just automatically convert it into dollars in my head.

The deal works in the UK too. You need a ac.uk email address. And it's 30 pounds.

I would back up your hard drive just incase your memory cntrl ks or something.

theres no free download so for now its on hold...

Would you have to back-up your hard-drive to upgrade to W7?

You should always back up your important files before upgrading to anything.

If you are upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, it will import all of your files and settings provided you're upgrading using the same version. Here's the upgrade paths that you can use:

Vista Home to Windows 7 Home
Vista Business to Windows 7 Pro
Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate

Anything other than that and you'll have to format your drive and install from scratch. Windows 7 includes something called Anytime Upgrade, which means you can upgrade from Vista Home to Windows 7 Home then upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, and you pay some sort of reduced rate (I think it's just the difference between the two versions, eg, $80 from home to pro and $20 from pro to ultimate, but I'm not really sure).

If you're upgrading from XP you'll also have to format your drive and install from scratch.

There is an option to make a "Windows.old" folder, and that includes your old program files and such.

I just got my laptop today with 7 Home premium, it is slick and clean, probably the most efficient Windows OS I've ever used.

Im getting Windows 7:Home Premium with a better Video Card this friday..
