I have one issue. I add a light, whether direct or point, and when I go to test it, it says the light needs to be re-built. Halp?

you need to have a dynamic and static lights.

No, you're loving handicapped.  Press the light icon on one of the toolbars, when you hover over it, it should say "Build light"  Then let that compile.  After that it should be done.
