Its the same thing as recoloring except you use original characters. To get started, take another character and modify it's apperance (not recoloring) so that is has a new gun, arm, head, etc. This will help you get the feel for what looks good and what doesn't. After you do that enough, think up an idea for a character and try to use all the elements you have experimented with. If you ever get stuck, look at someone's work to get a feel for what looks good.

I would make some lemon/limeade for some natural flavor, using soda water (carbonated water). Add a little citric acid for extra zip, and that should do it. I think you are thinking of baking soda, but that will neutralize the citric acid and leave behind a salty flavor. You might also put it in a bowl and add a chunk of dry ice before serving to make it extra bubbly.

To give it some extra lemon and lime flavor, scrape the white rind off the lemon and lime peels and dice up the yellow and green zest. Put them in a bowl with a little water and put it in the microwave cook it for about two minutes - it needs to come to a boil but not entirely cook the zest. Strain the zest out, and you should be left with some water and lemon and lime oil. Let it cool and add it to your mixture. Sweeten the mixture with cane sugar (not corn syrup) dissolved in hot water and serve with a twist of lime in each glass. It will be delicious!

Basically, start with a sheet of stick men that all match the same dimensions.
Then use shading and everything else you'd normally use in a character drawing, just, at a much smaller scale. :3
