You should put it in the bank on a high interest rate account that you can't access untill you turn 18.

That's a CD and not the best way to invest. Put it in a mutual fund with a 10% annual increase and buy the time your 18, you'll have doubled your money. Keep it in there until your 21 and you'll be able to buy a car or have a bit of money to put towards a house. Kids these days don't know the meaning of saving money. At the very minimum, don't spend over $2000, save $1000 for something you want to buy later on.
