It's difficult to give any specific advice for atmosphere.
It takes practice, patience, and determination. You should always have in mind what you're aiming for before you begin to build.
You might ask Squideey (since he does the great majority of building) but I'm afraid there's not a lot to be said as specific tips.

Bump for the mountain and things
From now on, the red book (Sirrus) and the blue book (Achenar) are to be excluded from Myst in Blockland.
... Instead there will be the Squirrus' orange book and Ekenar's green book.
