It's not possible to build off-the-grid. A 1x1 cone in the middle of a 2x2 round would be half way off the grid in both directions which isn't allowed. This isn't going to be done because it'd jeopardize a lot of the ways in which rendering is optimised. |

What can be done is, if you try placing something in the middle of a rectangular brick, the brick could be split into smaller bricks, leaving room for the new brick to be placed. |
