This contest was actually challenging, you people are whining because winning required some effort.

If he is going to state the rules of the contest in the very beginning, it's extremely stuffty to deviate from them after everyone has entered. The only reason you're defending it is because you've won. If you hadn't been the winner, the odds are that you would be quite upset about this as well.
