After you deconstruct the wagon make sure you remove the meeting hall zone on top of it.

You should probably empty the wagon. Before trying to deconstruct it. If you do break down the a loaded wagon then stowing away all the food in underground stockpiles should be your priority since it rots above ground if it's not in the wagon or indoors.

Dwarfs will walk through restricted ones if there is no other way to their destination but platering the ground with the restricted designation is silly anyway. Dwarves move inside when you remove the meeting hall on the wagon and there is stuff to do inside. Putting the meeting hall inside will make idle dwarves party there. Good places for a meeting hall are zoos, dining rooms, wells and statue gardens, pretty much anywhere there is lots of pretty furniture.

I always got to like the second part where a caravan of extra dwarves would come...

then things just always fell apart.. i always ran out of food and things just werent storing and i got fustrated
