Its called a stupid dwarven trick.
Though, I did make it for the monarch, when he/she arrives.
It also makes for a huge meeting hall.
It also isn't ineffient, there are numerous exits to the workshops.
AND, it has a burrow reserved for Legendary Dwarves, Nobles, Decorated Warriors, and my favorite dwarfs, one smaller hall are left to the others. The stairs leading down to production. The Production area its self is organized into 11x11 blocks with stairs down to storage. So 8 workshops surround a few stairs (No jamming) and since the storage is right below the workshops, the workers will use the storage all the time, being refreshed by others with nothing better to do.
The bedrooms are stationed between the dining and relaxation halls and workstations, however, due to the fact dwarves drink twice a day, refreshment stands are placed under in the workshop storage area, so the dwarves do not have to walk to the top of the fortress.
The magma smelter is the worst though, considering the smelters have to haul Gelena and Hemitete from all over the fortress, I Believe I will change that though, and off to the side in the temple district the tombs are kept. Since you only go there once. Nobody dies twice.
Speaking of districts, my fortress is organized into 4 districts (So far, I'm planning about 6) A normal district for a majority, grand district for certain dwarves, and minor nobles. A guild district, for legendary dwarves. Temple district for reglionous purposes (Blood). However, when Majoy nobles arrive another district will be created. For kings and Generals.
Then there is defence, I believe, I'll have to create some fortified towers for crossbow dwarves. About one Z level above the ground, (Higher levels do not give range, since all archers have 'bubbles') over a long 3 wide road, (Not too long, for my foragers, hunters, and lumberjacks). Then my siege equipment could shoot down it.
Out of mircocline, of course, my national stone. (Mircocline, interesting name, since 'cline' not spelt like it but sounds, is the word for small in german, sooo, small small.)
