Theory: When you're using a melee, you can hold down lmb and it'll keep going. If you do this with a gun or RL, it fires once. I suspect the copies are holding down the lmb as opposed to pressing it repeatedly. (Keep in mind, this is a hypothetical lmb as they do not actually use mouses.)
