I said good source. It's not the only thing, but I get the most destructions on any server so I think that shows something about the class, "Spy".
Also, I finished downloading. Let's see how this works.

The spy is useful in competent hands, even if other classes can do his job. So there's a sniper up in that tower? You can send a Spy, he can flank just as well as a Scout because he instantly kills when he hits their blind spot. Sentry base? Spy is still effective if he's competent enough. If the Spy were taken out you would see a lot of complaining. And really, the stealth aspect of doing things can be a lot more fun than just a medic/heavy uber combo.

Common sense or not, people may use unlocks because they're fun weapons. Not everyone is hardcore and focuses on using teamwork extremely effectively to complete the objective.
