Err, the STEn (Yes, that's the correct spelling, it's short for Shepherd, T-something, Enfield/England, hence the n is lower case) had a massive barrel shroud and/or a cover to hold, if you held the magazine it would both be largely uncomfortable and come loose, causing feeding problems and jams.
