No you do not have to buy a different mouse (unless you bought a macbooK)
This rumor was started when people discovered they couldnt right click, this is because apple made it so you would have to change mouse settings to use right click. Yes i think it is pretty stupid, but i could see why apple would do this for people who are left handed. (but really, they should have a question pop up when you are setting the you mac where it would ask you if you used your mouse with your left or right hand.)

the default settings for the mouse would actually have both sides of this mouse use primary click

No draco, it is real. I used to use a mac all the time. And that mouse is bitching, i was really smooth until my little brother dropped it off the counter. Cheap hardware.
