Turtle Rock was acquired by Valve in 2008. Technically, the developers of CS:S are part of Valve.

I also find it pathetic of valve firing Turtle Rock Studios, seeing as they made the source engine good. I mean, they made the CSS bot, many css maps, Condition Zero, and Left 4 Dead.
