I keep tens of saves for each character, I make a new save each time i make a story changing decision 

And in dragon age i have 7 characters, Each with 8+ saves each

only the people involved in the mission, i.e. who you are stealing from. also thieves and beggars.

yeah that's fine, also if you've completed the thieves guild's quest the cowl is pretty good to use on assassinations.

I just gone done with the "Accidental" assassination. It was pretty fun :D

Another note about the Cowl is that it's great if you want to maintain more fame than infamy, just put it on before doing anything that increases infamy and it gets added to the gray fox not you're actual character.

there's amod that lets you join the mythic dawn after completing the main quest so you can redeem yourself and help them out or something.
