I should be able to host servers for people who can't host themselves....

What if you go to a friends house and play, or you have a dynamic IP?
I suppose I could just buy another BL_ID solely for hosting.

No, I actually know about this. You would have to get permission on the forums.
I go to my grandparents with my netbook or play BL on their desktop but that is the only other place I'll play it.

Badspot will not deactivate your key if it's used on a few different IP's on occasion, stop being so tinfoil. But if it jumps between a few different locations and frequent name changes then it can become obvious it's being shared.

Yes, he can tell if the key's IP is being used a few towns over on occasion or constantly jumping back and forth between California and England.

I'll just get another BL ID, shouldn't be a problem then, right?

Don't be handicapped, dude. Do you think I manage 20,000+ keys manually? Switching IP addresses is not a problem and neither is hosting a bunch of dedicated servers on a different IP while you play. The only time I've de-activated keys is when they are used by a huge number of different IPs in a short period of time (which is evidence that the key has been leaked onto the internet) or if it rapidly alternates between two distant locations.
DrenDran can easily host many dedicated servers for other people using his key. They will all be named "DrenDran's <whatever>". This is fine.
