Because in Fallout 1 and 2 the muties weren't called meta-humans. Meta-Human is just a word coined by Bethesda. In the old games they were just called Mutants. |

There's one friendly Super Mutant you meet who says he prefers to be called a "Meta Human" because it seems more fitting. |
