It's the same for this:
Other guy: No eating?
Player: Sure

--O.G is down to about 10%--
--O.G eats--
Player: ...
O.G: What?
Player: You just ate food
O.G: Nope!

That is more or less based on reality, but in general these rules are made up just to ensure the other guy wins. I often ignore the stupid rules myself, mainly because if don't eat (or pray), I die.
