Author Topic: Block_Cop: it's bad because it's bad!  (Read 12041 times)

Or am I missing something
I was simply stating that I should be unbanned because of how injustifiable the ban had been.  Regardless, currently I see no point.  The ban was only 10 minutes long, so that wasn't the real peeve to begin with; it was the rule itself.

If nobody ever decided "bad-words" were "bad" would we think they were bad?

No, we would not.  Again, it's popular standard.

This pretty much sums up what I've been telling people for the last 5 years. All I got was NUT UH STUPED ITS BAD!!11!one!1!!

The connotations on them, however, still exist and are seen. Certainly, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to use them in your own life, but sometimes people perceive them in a negative manner and dislike the usage of the words. I, personally, don't swear and don't like it when others do as well, for the same reasons I dislike when a person uses a rude tone in their voice when they speak. Those words I don't see at any point need to be said. But that's my own word choice and feeling.

However, in a server, the host has his set of rules that should be complied to. Certainly, they should be reasonable and a no swearing rule is. The host may merely want to have a relaxing, "clean" environment. However, the punishment should also be reasonable as well and a ban, even for 10 minutes, wasn't necessary in the situation. On the other hand, it is his server and has the right to enforce his rules in any manner he so pleases.

On another note, Narko is correct. If you wanted to be unbanned, you should have merely apologized and not given a lecture about how his opinion on such words is wrong. As he said, you were raised different and you see things from different views.  And while his justification wasn't the greatest, he didn't need to justify anything to you in the first place. He had a rule and you broke it. Granted, it was "unintentional" and I agree the ban was not needed, but it is still his server. If you can't respect the rules he has and his own opinion, maybe it's best if you don't go there. It is quite obvious you don't want to be anyway.

To long; Did not read - Even if you don't agree with him, it is his server, and you should respect his opinions just as you want him to respect yours.

I advise both of you move on from this, and just try to enjoy what little time you have. Life is too short to be wasted on inane drama.

I understand that these things are currently going on, but the fact still remains: it's one giant opinionated standard that nitpicks through several other concepts.  I could find a set of words, a term, etc, to be that of offending to me.  If I enforce a rule that implies the usage of those words is not tolerated, does this imply that I'm right?  No.  It simply implies that these are my standards.  Being questioned my standards and why they've been forged to be such shouldn't offend anyone, and should be a simple question to answer.  This is what you call being open minded, as opposed to close minded.

I wanted to know why I had been banned directly.  I knew I was banned for cussing, sure, but I wanted to know why he would ban me FOR cussing.  It's a simple question on views that isn't difficult to answer.  However, he responded with "you have a brain, figure it out."  Being unbanned was the least of my worries, figuring out why he had made the rule in the first place was my real concern.  That is why I started this topic.

Fair enough. As I said, it's the connotations added to them, so it is personal standard. But had you wanted to understand why he had that standard, why didn't you just ask? You stated a good 12 lines of telling him that he is wrong before you actually asked him why he felt "cussing" was bad, and even then you weren't asking in relation to your ban. If anything you came off as seeming a bit arrogant in a way; giving the feeling of you saying "I'm right and you're wrong. Just try to prove me otherwise".

I'm sorry if I come off as rude, dear. I'm trying to state this the best way I can.

ASDF YOU creep GTFO.
how am I a creep if you're 17 and I'm 15
stuff, if you were a year older it would be statutory rape with me being the victim or something
