do macs use different servers?

i could assume files of any type can be kept on any server regardless of formats.
just because a pc server cant run a mac file, dont mean it cant upload it.

I'd assume the mac games are kept on their own separate servers since only people with macs are complaining of the "please try again later" thing.

I've been downloading Dragon Age: origins since Tuesday night and it's still not done. Do any of you understand how frustrating it is to have to wait this long for something to download. Steam has told me that there was about 3 hours left for the past 24 hours, If this game isn't done by the time I wake up tomorrow I'll likely cry and throw my monitor out the window (then cry some more about the broken monitor).
Change the server you download from. I'm closer to the Miami server, but when I switched to the Texas server my downloads started going much faster.

Do not start any program close any unneeded  things out.
programs will not slow down a download.

True, but I have a feeling they are separate.

It might just be an influx of people. Steam works amazing on my mac. Can't say the same for TF2. Other games, yes.

this makes no sense

They're both on the same server, I'm pretty certain. When you download Mac games, it comes with a hl2.exe and a hl2osx.app, and they both use the same files. I'm willing to bet a PC download will now come with and hl2osx.app, you guys should check.

The more programs you have open, the more memory you take up, therefore making harder for your computer to connect to a server and download file, right? I
probably wrong so please correct me if I am wrong.

you're right, but it really doesn't make that much of a different unless your computer is just swamped with RAM/CPU eating programs.

what really matters is how much bandwidth is being eaten up
