| Vindictus: Closed Beta Is Now Up And Running |

Story and Naming The name was changed from Mabinogi Heroes to Vindictus. Vindictus is said to be derived from two words: Vindicate (maintain, uphold, or defend, OR clear of accusation, blame, suspicion, or doubt with supporting proof) and Vindictive (having or showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge). The people are fighting against fomors, various types of monsters, for what seems endless centuries desperately waiting for their black winged goddess, Morrighan, to take them to Erinn, a place without pain and illness. They try to survive and entirely eradicate the formors while praying that Morrighan will finally come and save them. Note: Mabinogi Fantasy Life takes place after Mabinogi Heroes/Vindictus, already starting in Erinn. Combat System Vindictus will be using the Source engine to allow players to interact extensively with the environment. Environmental objects can be destroyed or picked up and wielded as weapons. Combat is described as "kind of brutal, like a bullfight," and will require a lot of teamwork. Classes Vindictus' "Classes" and "characters" are one and the same. When beginning the game, players have a choice to play as one of three characters, each of which has different combat skills and abilities. Players are free to alter certain aspects of their character's appearance, but basic abilities and combat styles are set at character creation. They are gender-locked. Character There are going to be around 6 - 10 characters (though Legatus said there were five). There are only 3 playable characters at the moment, Karok and Kai will be released later this year in the Korean Version. Lann: Lann is a male character described as "An intrepid warrior with a passion for weapons." The character specializes in dual-wielding weapons, especially swords. The character is a fast-attack melee class that starts out wearing light armor (though he gains that capability to wearing heavier armor as he levels up) who relies on speed to win battles. Fiona: Fiona is a female character described as a "balanced warrior who wields a sword and shield." Fiona is a defensive melee character who is able to wear heavy armor at character creation and acquires the ability to wear plate mail as she levels. Evie: Evie is a female magician who uses different types of magic to help the player and the party. Later, Evie can equip and use battle scythes. Karok: (soon to be out in Korean version) The heavy, massive columns used as a weapon ruthless giant. (unknown other details) Kai: (soon to be out in Korean version) A male archer that has a druid like appearance with his armour. (unknown other details) Customization In Vindictus, there is a dyeing system that allows players to get an entirely unique appearance. They can dye clothing and weapons. At character creation, people may change eye and hair color, hair style, height, underwear, and etc. But, to get some nice looking underwear or different looking hairdos, skin color, tattoos, etc. you must pay for a premium character creation. Setting The time period of Vindictus is set several hundred years before the era of Mabinogi. In this war-torn world, the people cling to the belief that if they can destroy the "Fomors", (monstrous humanoids), they will be brought by their black-winged goddess Morrighan into the land of Erinn. As a result, the land has suffered under endless war for hundreds of years and many people are beginning to give up hope that the legend of Erinn is real Some Trivia for all of you, In Mabinogi, Legatus the Blue Dragon mentions Lann and Fiona, along with "three other heroes" in Vindictus' time, fighting against Dragons. From this, we may be able to speculate that not only Morrighan was related to the past, but other beings as well... So this game will still be strategy like Mabinogi, buts it going to be more party play strategy, not individual like Mabi. |
