You can get addons and updates in the demo.
You get all updates and can use any add-on, but you're still limited to 150 bricks/no multiplayer until you buy it. So in the most recent update a demo user can use e.g. the 8x grill or fence bricks but most of the multiplayer changes don't affect them too much.
What the hell does that mean.
