Is earthbound ever going to reach the Wii's virtual console?

I have never played earthbound before, and i was hoping i could first experience it on the virtual console. It seems that nintendo has not released it yet, and it is a well known cult classic. what is the deal?

Just get a rom.  It's what I did.  Better yet, get a rom and a Dingoo a320.  That'll make it feel sort of like you're playing Earthbound on a GBA Micro.
