is going to face overpopulation in a much more real sense sometime in the near future.
Just something to think about.
First off the last century has been a period of population explosion. However, we have to understand why.
During the 1700's, the average lifespan was much shorter than today's. 8 out of ten kids would die before puberty. So families would have 10-12 kids, because economically this was essential for survival. Along with that it was financial Self Delete to get a divorce (along with the Church's power at the time). More kid's meant more labor, more labor meant more wealth, more wealth meant greater survival probability.
Now, in the 21st century, lifespans have doubled. Children are insanely expensive to raise and take care of, therefore people have less children. Couples aren't as religiously obliged to stay together and it's no longer financial Self Delete to divorce. So divorce rates have gone up as a result. People are having children for the joy of having them. And because of the expense of raising kids, the global population will decline steadily. Imagine having 10 kids in today's society...
FUNFACT: The United States is still largely underpopulated compared to most European countries. I think the U.S. average population per square mile is 33 people and Europe is like 130ish.
