problem: every other gun in bl, and for that matter, T+T, uses proper bullets.

Proper bullets go really loving fast. Hitscan bullets go really loving fast.

hitscan bullets are not bullets. they just spawn an explosion where you're looking.
bullets, relative to raycasts, are really slow, and there is for whatever reason a cap in blockland as to how big their velocity is. basically, you can't really do much to someone using a raycasting gun over a distance, such as in a dogfight which typically has a lot of distance between things.
