PSP question

I was looking at some Lego games for PSP, and the Lego Batman description says theirs multiplayer on PSP. But what I want to know is how do you play multiplayer with a PSP? Do you have to go online to play? Or is there like a wire you can connect to two PSP's to play games together like a GBA. I am getting a PSP soon and I really would like to learn about the multiplayer features in some of the games I'll be getting so can someone tell me how you play multiplayer on games for PSP?

PSP has WiFi, so you connect to the internet wirelessly. You make a Playstation Network Acount, and you can play online.
