I'm pretty sure Fred R. Barnard knows a little bit more about the effectiveness of text and pictures than you do. Stop quoting yourself like what you said was deep or meaningful.
Barnard meant that a picture has the ability to represent or elicit word from people. He didn't mean that you were supposed to respond in images and just generally act like a loving handicap. This is why picturebooks are for toddlers and novels are for adults. Don't quote one of the most famous quotes in history in order to justify your stupidity when you don't even know how to use it.
