it's a cube, even if it were lower it would still rip of the top in re-entry, that is if it ever makes it out...

My theory:

Cargo ship launches. Cargo ship flies up 10 feet. Cargo ship falls down. Cargo ship blows up.
Grignard:
In most theoretical situations like that, a lot of ships will never enter any atmospheres. They would be constructed in space and such. If certain cargo needed to be brought down to a planet, a smaller shuttle would come to load it up.

Theoretically, ships like the Constitution class(Star Trek) would fall apart entering atmo, hence why ships are built in space and never enter atmo.
