Which one and why? (360 and PS3.)

Feep:
I myself have a PS3 80gig, and it holds a great amount of data, it's a good choice for a family console or one when you like to listen to music, or if you're looking at pictures or playing a movie. PS3 has better graphics, but only by a bit, and it does have free network, which does mean more people but the price for it makes up for it.
If you're looking for a long time investment, try the PS3, i guess.
Muzzles has a great argument for the 360 though, so go outwit me muzzles.
Marcem:
PS3, it's a great entertainment center, it plays blu-rays, games, music files, and can connect to computers and stream video/music.  Also, this fall, netflix on the console is coming.  The exclusives are pretty good, there's Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, and many more.  If you do get one, get the Move bundle if you're willing to spend the extra cash for the Move.  Otherwise, get the 250gb.
naturemon:
I have a Ps3, but I used to have a 360, I love the Ps3 more because of the fact that it's exclusives are some of the best I've played, unlike with the Xbox 360 where in my opinion the only decent exclusive was the Halo series.
Mr.Interceptor:
Might as well get the Slim.
Thorax:
The new Xbox 360 should have the red ring fixed, so you don't need to worry about it. And even if you get an old system, most times the red ring is easy to fix, and even easier to prevent.

Now, I've played both PS3 and 360 quite a bit and I'd have to prefer the 360. While the PS3 does have a wide selection of games (As opposed to the 360 being somewhat of a "shooter system"), online isn't the greatest, through it's free. Nobody uses mics. It does have a few pretty good games (Warhawks, Littlebigplanet, etc.).

360 has way better online play and most games support it. Although you do have to pay for it, and the price is being raised $10 for a yearly subscription, it's still a great thing to have. The best way to think of it is like buying a new game every year, which most people do anyway. Exclusive games like Halo Reach make the system great because the are great games.

Also, the majority of people that bought non-360 systems that I know eventually bought a 360.
