Three programs before installing a transformation pack. An antivirus. malwarebytes and web of trust.
Look at the websites reputation.
Scan the file with an antivirus and malwarebytes. if nothing is found then...
Download and install.

ubuntu comes with themes, so the ugly brown can become an awesome black

I don't think they have one for W7. I may be wrong though, I haven't changed my theme in months.

I personally really like MacOSX's UI, so sure.
