How do the bricks work?

I would love to know why bricks are destroyed from top to down when you wand a stack of them, as well as how to detect bricks that were chainkilled by the death of the same brick.
So like willcausechainkill, but rather, call %brick.willbechainkilled(%brickthatdies);
That would be a very useful function for me, plus add even more functionality to bricks.
