Nexon doesn't make games, they publish them (and provide absolutely horrible customer service, but that's a different issue) Devcat made Vindictus.
Nexon is basically being more money-hungry than usual.

In Korea, there's is a token system in place in order to follow Korean laws on gaming. After you get passed the first boat (Perilous Ruins) you have to use tokens to get in. The amount starts at 2, as you run more a day, the number increases. You get 100 a week - 50 on Monday and 50 on Friday. At 10 minutes average per run, you get about 8 hours of playtime a week. You can buy platinum tokens with NX, allowing you run more dungeon after you run out of silver tokens. These tokens are tradeable, so you can buy them from other players, and they give you 50% bonus exp and gold if used.

This system does not work in NA. We don't have the same attitude towards gaming as Koreans. Nexon spiked the price of the token to over 200% of what they are in Korea, made them untradable, and removed the 50% bonus. If you read the Vindictus forums, basically every topic is about the token system.

The way Nexon is handling this is also very unprofessional. Prior to the recent maintenance implementing Halloween stuff, tokens refreshed every few hours. They changed it to twice a week with absolutely NO notice, everyone blew through there tokens because they didn't know, and they couldn't play until Friday. They give everyone 30 platinum tokens and think it will fix the core problem. They're deleting any thread about the token system (they say they want to keep it all in one thread, which I guess makes some sense because idiots want to make multiple threads). In one topic they say that they set tokens to refresh every few hours so players could get a feel for the game, and they had to turn it to twice a week 'for game balance' and then the next topic they claim the fast refresh was a bug.

So basically, unless Nexon listens to the community (lol) Vindictus is going to die out and become a backup MMO for when people are bored, with the occasional rich person spending hundreds a month.

Here's a calculator to show how much it will cost for you to play http://eadeo.info/vindictus/cacl.php
The amount I'd probably be able to play, with school and things on Mabinogi would be about 3 hours on weekdays and 4 hours on weekends, at 4 runs an hour, would cost $64.50 a month.
Shinji:
Oh. Nexon forgeted it up, just like they did with Mabinogi, correct?

I understand. I still think this game is fun, though.

Eryehk:
Its a good casual game for me though, I don't play all day. I get home from between2-4 most days, do chores/homework, i eat dinner between 5-7ish I get off my computer at 9 and hop on my laptop for the rest of the night. Which leaves me roughly 2 hours most days to play. I honestly have never ran out of tokens yet.
Headcrab Zombie:
Even for people who only play a few hours a day, you'll still be hit. Not as many people will be running with you, prices for materials will soar, etc.

A glimmer of hope

Just hope they pull through, Nexon has promised change before but never delivered.
