I like that this is based in Vegas, because I live there. Its cool to see what would have become of some of the cities.

So, I decided to go through the NCR camp at Primm right? To avoid Deathclaws and the such. I snipe 2 convicts with my single shotgun, and then head out into the dry lake bed with bark scorpions crawling at my feet.
I get to Nipton, and find that the Legion has crucified several Powder Gangers and they leave. I go through a Viper Gunslinger infested gulley, and then get out at the highway. This is where I get lucky. I meet-up with a trade caravan; 2 merchants, 2 mercenaries, 2 brahmin. I decide due to my low amount of aid that I will hang out with these guys, because luckily enough they are heading to Novac.
We precede to be jumped by Legion recruits, easily killed, 'cept one mercenary dies and the other is badly wounded, so he begins to lag behind, then we are ambushed by several Vipers again. This time, it is only 1 merchant, 1 mercenary, and 1 brahmin with me, the other 2 were left behind doing god knows what.
We head on after killing the small group, and I begin to see Novac's iconic dinosaur silouhette on the horizon. I run ahead and get to Novac at around 2 in the morning, and I end-up finding another person's motel room to sleep in so I can get up in the morning and rent a room.
I love small adventures.

I think it's not random, the exact same thing with no exceptions happened to me with the caravan.

Hm, well still, the choice is made whether or not you follow them.
