but the menu buttons got changed server side how?
It didn't get changed server side. If it was happening to the host, then he has an add-on that allows users to have a backdoor exploit to the host's console. Most likely thing is that he changed it himself using the GUI editor and no hacking was involved.
Obviously a serverside mod.
A server sided mod cannot alter an object on a client directly unless it happened to the host of a non-dedicated.
