Author Topic: [Tutorial] Terrain heightmaps from Google Earth.  (Read 3326 times)

Too lazy to make my own   :cookieMonster:

Basically this method will give you nice high resolution height-maps with terrain elevations around the world.  You can get the data for almost anywhere on the globe, but not so much for the poles.

You'll need these three things plus some sort of image editing software.

* Google Earth (http://earth.google.com)
* MicroDem (http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htm)
* SRTM Overlay for Google Earth (Run from URL once you've installed Google Earth http://www.ambiotek.com/topoview).

After your done editing the tiff's resize it to a 256x256 png and put it in heightscripts of the editor folder.

This looks like fun! I'll see if I can put Texas on the map. :3
