that's just because it takes time for a lot of bullets to hit and try to destroy it.
also, if you had A LOT of sentries, you could proabably take down the jet in one pass.

Drendran and i were the first to discus this, later areomcfly and i mounted sentry's in uh-60s, Helli sentry genships.
Suggestions: c-130 with sentries=Ac-130
