How to add new vertices in Blender?

Select the vertex and extrude (E) it to where you want it.

I've got that, but I can't use that to do what I am trying to do.

I'm trying to make another one of those, but if I move it, I want it to change the cube's appearance.

This would be useful for me as well.
The Corporation:
Go to edge select mode and select edge, or select the two vertices of that edge, and then W>>Subdivide, or Subdivide multi
