If you really need a tl;dr for that, it's a Dance Dance Revolution clone.
I don't think I need to describe this that much; you all know what Dance Dance Revolution looks like. Just picture that, and that is what this is pretty much.

3.9a is the stable release of StepMania. Get that if you're new to the game, trust me. The only thing 4.0b6 is really good for is the online play, even though it's a hassle to start using the online play.
Requirements:
A computer running Windows (98 or newer), Mac OSX (10.2.8 or newer), or Linux
A computer with a 3D-capable graphics card. (If your computer or video card was manufactured in the last 4 years, it's likely that it can run StepMania).
