They said they're worried that some extremely talented hacker will hack the Wii Shop Channel and get their info. Yeah, that's totally what hackers wanna do, hack a Wii to get some kid's credit card information.. :P

It's transferred through a safe connection from your Wii to the Nintendo database, isn't it? Freaking idiots.

I'm pretty sure if someone was talented enough to do that, they should aim higher than a points shop, considering most people (That I know) use the nintendo points cards, not credit cards.
