It's free, but stuff and it costs money to do basically anything:
Want land? You have to pay rent in real money to Linden Research
Want to buy something? You have to pay real money to other people, or make it yourself
also, it's extremely laggy, full of furries, everyone is AFK constantly, and half the stuff for sale is love accessories so you can cyber in-game.
