The last four of those are editable in the options, though.

My point was that the options for those last four are too restrictive, at the very least for view distance. Even at the maximum view distance, it can still be a pain. It was originally higher, but Badspot reduced it for performance reasons. (Source)

Just to be clear, latency does not interfere with rendering such as that of lighting and the resultant shadows; you are completely wrong. Having an amazing broadband connection would not circumvent the problem. Many of Blockland's users are running on old and/or weak hardware.
