Any other unrelated gain would be the ability to have my ideas and thoughts heard, something I often try to do. While I appreciate kind and constructive comments to things, when it comes to the internet praise to me feels pretty hollow and can sometimes be downright embarrassing. If anything, I expect people to get angry at me writing something that could be controversial. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but there is no ego element about it. Admittedly, having my ego stroked occasionally from other things such as movie creation doesn't go unwanted, but on this specific occasion its not the intent.
