what you're saying is that animals don't know how to defend themselves at all. so basically if i went up to a wild, fully-grown male lion and punched it in the loving face, it wouldn't do stuff.

but in reality however, it would claw my loving face off. a cat would at least try to do the same. all animals would. a dog bites, birds peck/nip at you, large cats claw you/eat you, snakes bite/swallow you whole.

all animals will defend themselves. no matter how trained my dog is, if i pissed him good enough, he'd try to bite the forget out of me.
