Using the term "noob" makes you look like an idiot. Also, it's not even a viable insult due to it being derived from "newbie", which means a new player. Calling someone new to the game isn't an insult, it's either stating a fact or it isn't (in the case that they're not new).

Noob and newb have two different meanings.

They do. Noob is a slang word in its own right, its derived from newbie.
