Well, my initial goal was to try and actually "make friends", or at least diffuse unfriendly relations.

If so, how exactly is that supposed to 'win him over'? Why would you want to do that anyway, you seem to want to discuss how much you hate his delivery/point of his thread.
From what I've read, your argument against his topic was that he was a hypocrite for telling people to stop being aggressive when he was doing the same thing. Then you two start yelling at each other and not much is achieved.

Forgot friends. I was trying to diffuse sitiuations between him, me and many others by pointing out his wrong. I was aggressive because I was angry.
